The Mappy Thing makes finding places to ride your bike in San Diego easy. Whether you live in San Diego and you are looking for new places to ride or if you are visiting San Diego with your bike or want to rent a bike, The Mappy Thing is here to help. For too long the best rides in San Diego were passed down from generation to generation and you needed an experienced rider to show you where to go. The time has come to put the rides online for everyone to enjoy.
Our editors and guides hand selected what we feel are the best rides and cycling routes in San Diego. You most certainly will not find all of the rides in San Diego but there is something for everyone. Whether you are a cyclist starting out and just want to pedal around, if you are visiting San Diego on a business trip and don't want to waste time getting lost, or even if you are a hammerhead and looking for a new double century - The Mappy Thing can help.
All of the rides on The Mappy Thing leave from somewhere you can park your car (if necessary) and you will find maps, cue sheets (directions), elevation data, and even the best coffee shops, hidden urinals, and eats to keep you fueled up and pedaling along. If you are looking for places to rent bikes in San Diego or a good bike shop we have that too.
One comment we get is that we seem to like all of the shops, rides, and coffee shops on the site. That is because we do. We do not include rides we hate or bike shops we have had bad experiences with. Think of The Mappy Thing as your best cycling friend in San Diego. Your friend would not take you to visit a bike shop and then tell you it stinks so neither do we.
Who we are
The Mappy Thing editors have a collective 50+years of cycling experience. This website is a labor of love and a way to give back to the San Diego cycling community. Our goal is to share our experience so the next generation of riders can experience what we experienced. Who we are, however, must remain a secret. Because our editors review bike shops and restaurants we must remain anonymous. We do not want any special treatment.
We like Heifers and Bikes
The Mappy thing is a labor of love. We certainly will not be retiring from the revenues from this website. Nonetheless, we do hope to have some advertisers some day and although we are not (yet) a non-profit organization, a portion of our revenues will go to purchasing livestock through Heifer International and bikes through World Bicycle Relief.
