A little twist on the Great Western Loop that will shake up your riding and give you a 30-40 minute climb.
Everyone and their brother rides the Great Western Loop till they puke and their eyes bug out of their head. How about a little twist on the San Diego classic. Head out the 94 and go up Honey Springs Road. Once you get off the 94, cars are few and far between and you can concentrate on this 30-40 minute climb up Honey Springs road. From there it is the Great Western Loop backward and head home.

Start out at the (now familiar) Starbucks in Rancho San Diego and head out Campo Road. This part of the ride will have some traffic so be careful but enjoy the scenery as you will cruise right through the valley over roller after roller. Take your left on Honey Springs road and ride to the top. This will dump you out at "four corners" where you have some options. For this ride, we will go right on Lyons Valley Road and pretty much follow the Great Western Loop in reverse. Going in reverse is a bit easier on the legs as you have two long descents on the way home. Enjoy!
