The Cyclo-Vets are something of an enigma in San Diego Cycling. On the one hand they are comprised of "seasoned" riders whose average age is older than than the website description of a "masters cycling club" would suggest. On the other hand, they take their riding seriously and are ready to hammer along with the best of them and demostrate their racing prowess even on a club ride. Although we dont expect that most of our readers will subscribe to Geezer Jock Magazine, if you did, you would know that this fine publication proclaimed that Cyclo-Vets was the best masters-age bike club in America in May of 2006. The club has also won the United States Cycling Federation's "Team Challenge Trophy" every year since its inception.

These guys do not get involved with the cold shoulder routine toward new riders that is common in other San Diego Cycling clubs. Rather, newcomes are welcome and you can expect to hear, "Hello, my name is [insert name of friendly Cyclo-Vet rider here], what is yours?" So, if you are a masters age rider and you are looking for a group to ride with, you are encouraged to give the Cyclo-vets a try. With more weekly rides than any other club (perhaps because so many members are retired) there is a ride for everyone.

The main weekly ride leaves from mission hills and covers the Great Western Loop which is a classic San Diego ride. After the ride, there is a (somewhat prolonged) stop at the coffee shop where club members ride  head home but many take a second turn out in the mountains.
