Mission bay, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach all in a flat jaunt. This is the San Diego waterfront in a nutshell.
What better way to spend the day on your cruiser bicycle than touring Mission Bay, Mission Beach and Pacific Beach. This ride is flat as a pancake and most of it is on a bike path which is always a benefit. To many, this is the San Diego waterfront.

This bicycle ride will start out at the kiddie park at Mission Bay. An alternate starting place is the visitor center up the road. However, we always find better parking at the Kiddie Park. Then again, you could acutally start this ride anywhere on the route such as Ocean Beach or Pacific Beach.
Head out of the kiddie park and quickly pick up the bike path. It will be the one that is jammed with people waking, running, and biking and the one that has jet skiers doing their thing on the right side of the bike path. Take a left at South Shores Park Drive and cross Sea World Drive. Turn right on the bike path on the far Side of Sea World Drive. Exit the bike path on Quivera Road. Follow along and pick up West Mission Bay Drive. It will be a busy road so hang in there.
Turn left on Mission Blvd. At your leisure take a right and head toward the beach. Along the beach, you will find a path that is loaded with people walking, beach cruisers, and the rest of the mayhem at Mission Beach. This place is kind of like the board walk in Venice Beach up in LA. Follow the path all the way through and over to Pacific Beach.
Exit the boardwalk on Pacific Beach Drive. Your goal now is to find your way over to Grand Avenue. You can follow the map above but there is nothing magic about that route. Just go through the neighborhood and get over to Grand Avenue and take a right. Grand Avenue will be busy hang in there.
Immediately after you pass the water on your right, get the heck off of Grand Avenue and get on the Rose Creek Bike Path. Follow the path along and head back to your car. Nice work.

In addition, the Bayshore Bikeway from Mission Beach to Crown Point is a better, quieter, more scenic alternative to get from MB to the Rose Creek bike path.
