UC cyclery is not the biggest store in San Diego but it is one of the better known stores as UC Cyclery hosts the weekly Start of the SDBC club ride. The staff is unassuming always smiling and knowledgeable about their products and is always willing to point you in the right direction if they do not have what you are looking for.
If you are searching for high end carbon bits and aero gizmos, UC Cyclery is not for you. UC Cyclery excels in the sweet spot of new riders and riders who are starting to take their sport a bit more seriously. If your goal is to avoid pretentious staff who push you into higher end equipment you may not need - this is the place for you. Expect to see mass market brands such as Specialized, Giant, and Trek. As is the case with any smaller bike shop, inventory is somewhat limited so you might call ahead if you are looking for just that right part.
Prices are average but the convenient location makes it easy to justify paying a little extra to support a local bike shop who consistently supports the San Diego cycling scene. UC Cyclerly also sponsors a respected masters cycling team.
